Seeking someone with more experience than I

I'm having trouble verifying a birth year and place for one of my distant relatives.

William Dickson b around 1775 unknown parents at this stage and possibly born in Yetholm (although I can't find it on SP site). William married a Helen Cairns (I've found the marriage record) but being an OPR it doesn't state the parents. The marriage record states William Dickson inthe Parish of Morbattle.....(Morebattle ?? spelling ??)

This was the only William Dickson I could find

which is obviously a son of the William I'm trying to trace.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He had a son at age 11? What year was the marriage? Seems like you'd need to look for a birth a wee bit earlier than 1775...

I found these on the BVRI CD’s note the different spelling of Dickson/Dixon and Helen becomes Nelly.

There are a few William Dicksons born in Roxburgh between 1760-1769 but I picked this one only on the basis that his father was named William.

Of course I should have checked Dixon and I do have Nelly on my tree as well.

I think I've got the right parents for her - on the marriage reg for William and Helen it states a Mungo Cairns.

It would appear that Janet Jerdan's parents are Charles Jerdan & Margaret Yetholm married 20/02/1730

The only charles jerdan I found in the birth records was born in 1843.
