Hello all,
I am researching my fathers ancestry and am stuck around 1738 with james clark being born 1738 and on some sites 1744 rosskene ross & cromarty, i know that he married a isabella fraser she was born 1740 and they had a son david in 1763-d1836 who married an isabel scott.
My problem is finding actual birth cert and marriage cert on scotlands people, they are mentioned on scots origins the son david is mentioned on
two dates b1763/1766 being born at findlater castle, banff, i have looked into the history of the castle and it would have been in ruins at that date, all a puzzle to me.
If anyone can help i would be most grateful!

Hi Gillian
According to GROS, the following are the ext\nt OPR records for Rosskeen:
81. ROSSKEEN
81/1 B 1766-1819 M 1781-1819 D 1801-13
81/2 B 1820-54 M 1820-54 D -
...so they appear to start a bit later than you are hoping to find. It may be that someone has found an indication of his birth elsewhere e.g. if the family were not Church of Scotland, a record may exist, if so, it might be found at National Archives of Scotland, but I wouldn't hold your breath!
If you have found mention of him elsewhere, are there any contact details on the website(s)so that you might be able to ask where the info was found?
Best wishes
Lesley
