Hi Katrina
Have you tried a search on freecen? Quite a lot of the 1841 is complete, so it is always worth a try. He may have survived that long...but he'd be getting on a bit!

Best wishes

Hi Katrina,
Couldn't this be Hugh? There is no occupation given, but he is the right age, considering that in the 1841 census ages were rounded down to the nearest 5.

1841 Census (from FreeCen)

Piece: SCT1841/590
Place: Dundonald -Ayrshire
Enumeration District: 4
Civil Parish: Dundonald
Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Troon
Folio: 4 Page: 34
Address: Stevenson's Land

Surname MUIR
First name(s) Hugh
Sex M
Age 65
Occupation
Where Born Ayrshire

All the best,
Sarah
