Hi Pkman3:
I found this is very difficult to read because of all the background, but this is my best guess.
On the ninth day of March 1850 at Bathgate. Marriage after banns was solemnized ____ as according to the Forms of the Church of Scotland
(signed) Malcolm Ross His X mark
Age 21
Residence Armadale
Rank or Profession: Coal Miner (Bachelor)
Name/Profession of Father/Mother: James Ross, Miner and ____ Ross, Maiden name Corbet (Deceased)
(Signed) Agnes Tait Her X mark
Age: 20
Residence: Engem ___ Bathgate
Rank or Profession: Farm Servant (spinster)
Name/Profession of Father/Mother: Robert Tait, Miner and Elizabeth Tait, Maiden name Grodie
Witnesses and Minister
(signed) John Byers, Minister of the Parish of Bathgate
(signed) Alexander Morton, Witness
(signed) John Byers, Witness
Hope at least some of it is correct. If you don't get any satisfactory help, you might consider asking SP for a better quality copy.
Frances

I agree that Malcolm's father's name looks like James but if you look at the census records there is a Malcolm born 1840 son of Walter Ross and Janet Corbet who were married at Edinburgh in 1839.
I'm going to throw in another ms for Agnes's mother - Speedie.
Regards,
Annette
You must have edited before I posted Lesley - 2 for Speedie.

Hi everyone,
I'd also go with Speedie for the mother's maiden name - I think that's a 'weel kent' name in the area.
There is still an Engine Lane in Bathgate, but not presently an Engine Street or a Eugene anything. I think Engine is probably the more likely.
Best wishes
Brian
PS I think the date of the marriage is 1860.......

A check at the census shows Engine Street and there is a death of an Elizabeth Tait Speedie in 1877 at Bathgate.Rockford wrote:Hi everyone,

Hi Pkman3,
The address has been annoying me since last night, so I've been looking again!
It's definitely Engine Street. If you go to www.old-maps.co.uk and at the search page enter the coordinates 297500, 668800 and then select the map of Bathgate from 1856, you can zoom into Engine Street, which is roughly in the middle of the page. If my memory serves, it's now a car park. [Added later - it could also have been renamed - the pedestrian precinct, which if memory serves is George Street, runs roughly in the same general direction, but isn't shown on the map below]
The uptodate map is map centred on Hopetoun Street, Bathgate
[which you'll be able to see after one of the moderators has shortened and approved my link!].
Best wishes
