STURGEON - KIRCUDBRIGHTSHIRE

Post by catlady462 » Wed May 21, 2008 12:58 am

Looking for anyone also researching the STURGEON family. My connection begins with William Sturgeon b 1820 Dumfries. He married Christina McMichan 1844 and he died 1868. His occupation was "butcher". His father was Moffat Sturgeon and mother Janet Bryan. His father was also a butcher/flesher.

I believe there were two other children of Moffat and Janet....Helen(1825) and Moffat (1822).

Any information on this Sturgeon family or the family of Janet Bryan would be most appreciated.

Hi Ruth,

I found the following two siblings on the online IGI.

JAMES_ ROAN STURGEON - Female Christening: 13 APR 1815 Dumfries, Dumfries-shire
HELEN BRYAN STURGEON - Female Christening: 29 MAR 1825 Dumfries, Dumfries-shire

It would be worth looking at the OPR for James_ Roan to see if this is reallly the name of a daughter. I wouldn't be surprised if you find Jamesina.

All the best,

AndrewP

Andrew,
Thanks so much for taking the time to do that look up. I will definitely look at that "James"....the female.

Hi Catlady,

Another probable sibling found.

MARGARET MCKINNEL STURGION - Female Christening: 12 FEB 1811 Dumfries, Dumfries-shire

No mother's name is given on the IGI or this one, but the father is Moffat Sturgeon [Sturgion].

All the best,

AndrewP
