Where to look next?
Hi, my name is Linda, and I'm new to the forum. I'm researching Whites in the county of Fife. I've had good luck up through Thomas White (b. 17 May 1767), having found his marriage to Beatrix Bennet (b. 8 May 1772) in an Elie, Fife, OPR (19 Sep 1795). His parents were both listed and I was able to find their marriage record, as well. Unfortunately, that one only states that they got married (Cameron); it doesn't give his parents names. I have all the birth records for their children, and they were baptized in Carnbee and Newburn (half and half). Without knowing his parent's names, where would I go next to find them? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
Linda

Hi Linda and a warm welcome to TalkingScot!
It gets tough when you're back that far! Why not try going by the children's names to see if you can work it out, i.e.
...first son named after the father's father
...first daughter after the mother's mother
...second son after the mother's father
...second daughter after the father's mother
...etc.
I've had quite good success with that method.
Regards,
Anne H

Thanks, Anne! I've tried that method; sort of... I've also tried using the father's profession (wright). The family seems to have stayed in the same area for quite some time, so not finding the father's (Alexander) birth record seems to suggest he might have been born elsewhere? Or was not registered. The OPR is wonderfully informative at times, and yet has barely the essentials at others.
It probably wouldn't be as much fun if it were too easy, right?
