Once again David Watson

Post by GRANDMA JUDY » Tue Jul 22, 2008 10:46 pm

I wonder if anyone can explain this.

We found David Watson b. June 2, 1794,c. June 10, 1794 in Logie-Pert,
BUT then found he was also baptized June 26, 1794 in Marykirk, Kincardineshire. Did this happen often. Parents in both areas were Robert Watson and Helen Wisheart. so my presumption is this is the same man.

The other thing I was wondering about..... I went to Scotland's People and called up David Sr.'s son, David, who married Susan Ogilvie in 1817.

This was written:
24 Nov. 1817 David Watson and Susan Ogilvie both in this parish having been regularly contracted and proclaimed without objections were married this day at the Manse before witnefses?sp.

If I was to order an official printout from the GRO would I just get the above info.or would it be in a different format. I had hoped the marriage cert would tell me something of their parents or witnesses or such. Is that too much to hope for??

The above entry in the OPR is as about as good as you are going to get. Only very rarely are parents named in an OPR entry. This is well before Statutory Registration was introduced in 1855, when parents names are present. If you orderd an official print out from GROS it would be exaclty the same as the OPR entry you have already seen.

By the way, a double "S" is usually written as what appears to us to be "fs". This is standard practice at the time.

Best wishes
