Good Afternoon All
I have hit another brick wall with this family I am looking for the children of James McDonald and Isabella McEwan, I have most of the children, that is what I think is them all after 1855, but on the 1855 birth cert of thier son John it states that this is their sixth child 3sons three daughters 1daughter dead. Using IGI it only gives 3 children John born 1855 died 1871, Janet born1664 and McDonald a still birth born 1857. I know from other information that my G.G.G Grandfather was born circa 1877.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
thanking you all in anticipation

Hi Andrew
I agree with you she had a tendancy to knock anywhere between 5 and ten years off her age on each census she was born in Muthil January1823.She died in Muthil 25th Jan1908 aged 84years.
Still missing at least two children both should be female one of whom should be named Elizabeth after her paternal grandmother as this family down the generations seem to stick to the Scottish naming pattern.

I did some searches on SP, but, unfortunately, without success.
Could the girls have been adopted? What religious denomination would the family have been?
Some of my Perthshire ancestors turn up in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses staying with a relative who was a minister of the Kirk. This misled me at first into assuming that they were orphans. They weren't adopted, but they were living outside the parish where their parents lived.
There are five Ann McDonalds aged 14 to 16 in the 1861 census for Perthshire. Don't bother with the one in Blairgowrie, because she is from Ross-shire, I think.
(Totally OT, but I am intrigued by the father of the child registered just above John McDonald. He is an Italian butler, from Lucca, called Luigi [can't make out his surname], married, in the rather fashionable St George's, Hanover Square, to a bride from Brighton.)

Hi All
Perhaps I have mislead everyone
The reason I am looking for other children from the marriage of James McDonald and Isabella McEwan is because of the birth certificate of their son john born 1855 (image Uploaded missing mcdonalds).
I thought I had all the offspring until I was reviewing some paperwork when I discovered that I was missing two children. In answere to Morgano's question they are Church of Scotland this family have given me problems from the day I started this quest. (But isn't that what mother's family's ar for)

The girls may well have been somewhere else in 1861 but ....there is a gap between Ann and James where a girl could have been born and died before 1851. And if another girl was born between 1851 and 1855 that would give the 3 girls.bleckie wrote:Thanks Annette
If I am right that leaves me two to find (both should be female)between 1851 and the birth of John in 1855. the James aged 2mo is my direct ancestor.
many thanks

Playing Devil's Advocate here -
Isabel is 36 in the '51 census; 30 at the '55 birth; 37 in the '61 census. Is it possible that there are more than one James and Isabel Mcdonald involved here?
Do you have the parent's/siblings names of James and Isabel, who may be keeping the two missing girls of approximate ages that may fit your gaps during the census dates?
Frances

Hi Francis
I have this family on all censuses right up until James and Isabell died. I thought I had all their children but I don't think I do James's parents are Ronald Mcdonald old soldier and Elizabeth McNaughtan as stated on James death certificate which I have. Isabella's parents are James McEwan and Ann Sharp. The McEwans had been in Muthill area since the 1630's James Mcdonald was born in Comrie.
James and Isabella got married in Blackford in 1843. Their son James was also working in Blackford as a Joiner in the 1870's when he fathered a child to a girl from Blackford they eventually got married in Glasgow then moved back to Muthill.at one time there were McDonald from the same family at three seperate addresses in Muthil the last one to move out was James and Isabella's daughter Ann Sharp MacDonald whe she died in 1935
