Help reading another OPR

Post by speleobat2 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 12:17 am

Hi all,

I just uploaded an OPR for the marriage of John Claryhue and Janet Gibson in 1741.

It says: John Claryhue Servant to James Freedman vintner in ?? & Janet Gibson D to the deceased Thomas Gibson
???

The first ?? are an abbreviation I think. The last ??? are for the whole last line of the entry.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Carol
John Claryhue Servant to James Steedman vintner in ?? <appears to be an abbreviation going from others on the page> & Janet Gibson D to the deceased Thomas Gibson ?tsler? in Inverness, now in Sky.

Lister / Litster - dyer...pehaps?

Lesley,

You are good at this!

Not sure on the abbreviation though. If you look at the entry just below, it looks like the same abbreviation right after the name Patrick Young, Mer.

On her father's occupation ?--Ostler? Hostler? ???

Have you looked at the entry on Scotsfind?

http://www.scotsfind.org/databases_free ... 1-1750.pdf

The abbreviations look like the parish?

Just saw your edit!

If he's now in Sky, does that mean he's "dying" there?

Hi Wilma,

I looked at the marriages on Scotsfind this morning. If it's there, I missed it, but that wouldn't be a surprise. I looked at just about everything else there too!

Thanks Wilma,

I noticed that they won't let you cut and paste on that site!

John also turns up on the IGI as a submission. I hadn't looked under Claryhue--variation number twenty-something!

Thanks again Lesley and Wilma!
