The first John.

Post by joette » Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:41 pm

I knew there were two John Scotts -one was born in 1843 & the other in 1853.
I figured that with William in 1847 & James in 1850 that he must have died in 1850-53.
I managed to find the entry in the OPR burial -most definently him as his residence is Milton Cottages,Glencorse where the Scotts lived from 1841 until at least 1870's.
He died Dec 1849 aged six but no cause of death given. No trace of their unnamed baby girl who died pre 1855.
I was trying to puzzle out why James born eight months after John's death was not given his name.I can only presume they were still too grief stricken to name this new son after a much beloved one who had gone so recently.
John(senior) was very keen that all his sons name one son John too.
I am visualising this little John like my six year old nephew Thomas & trying to imagine the pain & the loss of this little one going must have brought to their hearts.Especially after rearing him past infancy when they are at their most vulnerable.I shed a few tears.

Hi Joette,

I find it sad too when I find little ones have died without getting a chance at life...it must be heartbreaking for any family to go through.

Regards,
