Problems uploading
I've just tried to upload (for the first time) an OPR death entry to the Gallery because I need help with something on it. The thing just went on and on and on, even after all the green squares at the bottom of the screen, were full. I checked and the file is 36.9 MB. Is this too big and if so, what can I do?

Hi keewik
If you have an image editing program you could reduce the image size to something more manageable. If the very thought of this sends you into a panic, PM me and I'll give you my email address - you can then send it as an email attachement and I'll see what I can do with it.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Keewik,
I had to modify the Gallery configuration to take this upload (709Kbytes). I can only guess that you saved it from one of SP's viewers to end out with a file of 36Mbytes. I would recommend that you use the direct download method on SP - select that in your profile there. Then you are offered the option to save or open the file. It will be in the original format : tif for census pages and bmd certificates; jpg for OPRs and should be in a more manageable file size. Even with the 709kByte file, the Gallery would not accept it as the pixel count was too great. I have now increased the maximum pixel count, as I am sure yours won't be the only upload to come up to that hurdle.
Back to business:

All the best,

Thanks for all that.
(a) Yes, I had it set for Active X because I'd problems a while back. I've now changed it, though this will mean I'll have to download images before I can view them (I can't seem to open them because it tells me the programme Paintshop Pro has been damaged, but this was something that had been on the laptop for a few months trial only)
(b) re George Birrel. I'm now wondering whether he's mine because this George sounds fancy and mine was only a gardener when he married in 1763!
Thanks again fro all the hard work from both of you. Now to google East India Company!
