Hi folks
Using a lot of credits I've found these
24 Oct 1816, Peterhead, Aberdeen
George Steven, Boden, aged 87
*
14th Oct 1810, Blantyre, Lanark
Collected by James Young 19/3d
next line says...
George Steven mortcloth 2/6d
Trying to narrow down the death of 4X g/grandfather. His wife, Spencer, died in Glasgow (see OPR deaths..Yesss) but their daughter Isobella always said she was born in Aberdeen.
Working between the birth of Isobella abt 1790 and the death of Spencer in 1819 these are the only 2 possibles.
The 1st seems good, maybe he retired to Boden? He was a butler apparently
The 2nd one I'm not sure how to take? are the James Young and George Steven entries related or 2 separate entries? 2/6d seems very cheap for an adult mortcloth hire

Hi Sylvia
The two places you have are quite some distance apart....
Best wishes
Lesley
Without seeing the original in context it is difficult to say, but from those OPRs I have seen I would think this is listed like an account book - my guess would be, having seem OPRs laid out in what would appear to be a similar way, that James Young was an elder of the kirk and has handed in monies collected from the congregation. With regard to the mortcloth, 2/6 is not cheap - I would say that is a typical price for the times for an adult mortcloth. The 2nd one I'm not sure how to take? are the James Young and George Steven entries related or 2 separate entries? 2/6d seems very cheap for an adult mortcloth hire

Thanks for that Lesley
The reason I included Lanark in my search is that daughter Isobella was living there from at least 1815 when she married plus her mother died there.
I'm not sure where in Aberdeen Isobella was born...no baptism record.
OK stumped again by a choice of 2!!!
