Scottish OPR microfilm collections in London?

Post by David Douglas » Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:48 pm

I'm wondering if there are any libraries in London or the south of England with a complete set of Scottish OPR microfilms? Or some particularly well-stocked Family History centres?

Hi David

If they do not already have the films you want to see, you can order any microfilm via your local LDS Family History Centre for a small charge- it is about £2.70 for three weeks use of the film at my local one.

Best wishes
Lesley

I keep threatening to go but havnt so far even though i am a short hop from it.
And if you get the time you can pop into the V&A, Natural History Museum or The Science Museum - all next door to each other - you may never leave !

or

Society of Geneologists near Smithfield (the old meat market) have some records - havnt been here yet either

I believe the LDS have just increased the hire rate for microfilms to £7.50 for a three month rental, even if you only want it for a couple of weeks.

Thanks, that Family History centre looks really good, with 800 Scottish OPR microfilms.

I was asking on behalf of a genealogically interested relative that lives near London and didn't know of any good Scottish collections. He says the Society of Genealogists doesn't have many Scottish records. I'm hopimg he can do some research on our common ancestors.

I could of course also order microfilms to a Family History centre here in Denmark, but since you never know in which direction research will take you, ordering one parish at a time would be time consuming.
