Does anyone have OPR, or other records, regarding Jane Barry and John Stevenson who were married May 15, 1819 in St. Ninians, Stirlingshire? That is, their birth dates, records of children, or records of their parents. Any information at all would be appreciated.
Cheers, sjme

Re: Jane Barry/John Stevenson Birth Dates and Children
Hello sjme,
to
Have you found them on any censuses? If they lived past 1854, then their death certificates should give their parents' names.
Was John a weaver? Just wondering if this is the couple:
1851
Inp Road, Stirling Stirlingshire
John Stevenson, 68, Head, born Stirling, Stirlingshire, Woolin Weaver
Jane Stevenson, 67, Wife, born Perth, Perthshire
Janet Stevenson, 24, Daughter, born Stirling, Stirlingshire, General Serv At Home
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Jane Barry/John Stevenson Birth Dates and Children
Hi Sarah, just returned from vacation, hence the delay in responding. Thank you for the info, but the couple in your message are too old to be my g/grandfather's parents. I've since found John Stevenson's parents (James Stevenson and Agnes Stuart, I believe) but still have no leads on Jane Berry's parents. The Jane Berry I'm looking for was born in 1801 in Stirlingshire.
I did find information from an 1841 and an 1851 St. Ninian's Parish Census (for Bannockburn) listing John (a coal miner) and Jane with 6 children: William, David, Robert, Agnes, Janet and Peter (my g/grandfather).
So, anything at all I can find out regarding Jane Berry's ancestors would be wonderful news.
Where can I access death certificates for the relatives I've found so far?
All the best for 2010, sjme

Re: Jane Barry/John Stevenson Birth Dates and Children
Hi again,
The death records can be downloaded (for a fee) at Scotland's People (link at the top right of this page). You can register and search for free, but it costs to see the results of your search and to download the image.
Just playing around with the search, I found a Jane Stevenson, other surname b?r* who, died in St Ninians in 1861. She was 63. I assumed this was your Jane, but kept fiddling with the letters and searching again and it seems her "other surname" was Birkhill...

However, this is a very unusual name. Doing a surname search on Scotland's People for Birkhill gives only 4 results: 3 in the Statutory Register Deaths and one in the OPR Deaths. So I'm a bit suspicious of that name...
I can't seem to duplicate your 1851 census search, but it's probably Ancestry.com doing something odd. I get a household with only John and four children: William, Robert, Agnes and Peter. If Jane had already died by 1851, then she won't be in the Statutory Register Deaths and her parents' names are unlikely to be given.
I do see them all together in 1841. Jean is 40, but in the 1841 census the ages were supposed to have been rounded down to multiples of 5. So she can have been anything from 40-44 years old.
Let us know how you get on!
Regards,
Sarah
