Hi Trich,

TalkingScot and ScotlandsPeople are two entirely separate entities. TalkingScot is an internet discussion group for Scottish genealogy and a bit more. TalkingScot holds no records (birth, marriage, death certificates and the like). TalkingScot is operated by a small group of individuals, not business or government based. TalkingScot includes in its aims helping people solve their genealogical questions and sharing knowledge of genealogical methods.

ScotlandsPeople is an internet based holder of digital images from the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS), the National Archives of Scotland (NAS), the Court of the Lord Lyon (CLL) and the Scottish Catholic Archives (SCA). ScotlandsPeople is operated by internet hosting company BrightSolid, and is a partnership of GROS and BrightSolid. ScotlandsPeople displays these records on a pay per view basis - see their site for details.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Trish,

A warm [welcome] from me too.

I hope you'll soon discover what a great bunch of people we have. Everyone here loves trying to solve a mystery.

It doesn't seem to work the normal way. If you open the smilies page and hold the cursor over the smilie you want to use it will show you what to type in - [] with the smilie name inside them.
