William yuill a plumber??? .....

Post by maggie » Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:51 am

Hello
can anyone please have a look at an OPR entry for me
for a marriage of William Yuill and Agnes Paterson on the 8th Dec 1816 in East Kilbride just to see if it gives an occupation for William .
I have him on the 1841 census as an ag Lab and a Land Steward on the death cert for his wife Agnes.
But while" googling "on the Yuill surname i canme accross some interesting bits on the family and found he was a Plumber :o so i just wondered where this had come from . thankyou
kind regards maggie

Hi Maggie,
Nae luck on this one at all - must be the shortest record i've seen for an OPR marriage.
--
OPR 643 Vol 2. p269 East Kilbride (Marriages)
Decr. 8th 1816.
"Wm. YUILL and Agnes PATERSON both of this Parish"
--
All other entries were just like that, unless one of them was from a different parish.

Hello Jack
thankyou for having a look at the OPR for me it's appreciated yes it is very short & to the point .
the info i found on my Yuilles was interesting on this site prehaps the lady behind it will answer my email though it looks to be a pretty old site 1992-1999 though a part of it says newsletters to 2004 but i couldn't access that part

.i have been trying to check out some of it for myself but have only so far managed to obtain a death cert on sp for Margaret Yuill born 1834 daughter of William & Agnes (ms Paterson) and her family in the 1881 census although this info gives me details of her marriage in 1860 to a Allan Martin i can't find it on SP yet it was using those same details that i managed to get the death cert for 1892.

most of the info stems from / is centered around a John Yuill(and it looks like his decendants are in Australia) who the info says was the son of William &Agnes .I haven't got him on my" list " of siblings for my Mary from the IGI but there again neither is Agnes on the IGI but i got her on the census and was able to follow her through to a marriage &death.
This info lists a Jane born 1817 and died 12 sept 1867 Maryhill the info say's she was married to a Alexander Charmichael.
i am assuming this is Jean as on the IGI but haven't managed to find the death on SP to be able to confirm it as yet.
thanks once again Jack
kind regards maggie

Hi maggie,

There is an extracted marriage on the IGI for Margaret YUILLE and Allan Martin 31st December 1860 in Govan,Lanark.

However, looked on SP using this spelling and didn't find it. :?

Maybe it's worth a contact form to SP.

Regards,

Alison

Hi Alison,
As the marriage was 31 Dec 1860, it might be recorded in 1861?

Hi Jack,

I thought of that as I've come unstuck before with an end of year registration but I searched 1860 - 1861 and stil no luck.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my first post.

Regards,

Alison

Hello Maggie,

less can be more. Search for Martin, Al (leave the tick), Lanark, 1860 to 1861 and you will find it, since the district was not Govan.

John

Hi maggie,

Glad Sporran came up trumps for you.

He's helped me out of many a hole before! :D

Alison

Hi John,

How would it happen that the IGI had the wrong registration district. I've always assumed that the extracted entries were as read.
Glad you pointed it out as it's something to be aware of in the future.
