History/Town Hotel/Hamilton .....

Post by Rodeo » Sun Feb 19, 2006 4:17 am

Hi

Does any know what was originally on the site of the Town Hotel (formerly known as the Commercial Hotel) in Townhead St, Hamilton? There was a residence or farm on that site in which my forebears resided.

I am most interested to know what that locality in Hamilton was originally called. Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Hi Rodeo

Have a look at

www.old-maps.co.uk/

There is an 1864 map of Townhead Street: Grid reference: 272885,655253

Hope this helps.

Best wishes
Catriona

Hi Catriona

Thanks for your post. A kind Rootschatter directed me to a similar site that contains a detailed historic map of Hamilton on which the names of the original residents are noted. It's exactly what I was looking for. In the hope that it might be useful to others doing similar Hamilton research, hereunder is the link.

Again, many thanks, Catriona.

Cheers,
