If anyone has access to the Fife Burials Index, would it be possible to check for the name of Allardice. I feel there may have been family buried in the Strathmiglo area .
Thanks, Vonjon

Hi Vonjon
In addition to Ted's info, here are some variations of spelling of the name, which I consider could reasonably be Allerdice/Allerdyce, as they appear in the Fife death CD, just in case you've not already considered them in your searches (apologies if you've already got them).
Alderdise, Alerdice, Allardes, Allardice, Allardis, Allardyce, Allerdes, Allerdice, Allerdyce.
Two deaths in Strathmiglo in the name Allerdes but they're from a long time ago.
Alexander Allerdes, Strathmiglo/West Mylne 2/1587
Alexander Allerdes, Strathmiglo/West Mylne 13/4/1574
Liz

Looking for another Fife MI
Can someone please look up the Fife MIs as I cannot find my 3xGreat Grandfather's death on SP? He is George Philp born approx 1821 in Cairneyhill, Carnock, Fife. He is aged 20 living Cairneyhill in the 1841 Scotland Census and is missing from the 1851 Census which has his wife Janet Turnbull, living in Cairneyhill with their two sons David (b Dunfermline 1843) and George (b 1846 in Cairneyhill).
Thank you,
Pearl

Hello Pearl,
Is the wife shown as a Widow on the 1851 census and subsequently? It’s just that in the newspapers there’s a George Philp, a Flesher in Feb 1871, who appears to be from the Dunfermline area, who, unless there’s more than one of them, keeps getting hauled before Perth Court for various offences, nothing too serious, and who would frequently be a guest of Her Majesty at census time.

Hi Alan,
Interesting find! And that George, having been in prison in 1871, is in the poorhouse in 1881
Doesn't sound like much of a life.
Anyway, the good news for Pearl is that it's not her George
After much searching to find out his occupation in 1841, Ancestry finally came up with
George Shelp
He is a H L Weaver.
In addition, in case he had given up the loom for the flesh, the flesher in prison was born 1833 in Dunfermline. So I think it's safe to assume he's not directly hers.
Did Janet remarry later on? I'm not sure if there are OPR deaths available for that area, but that's another avenue to explore.
All the best,
Sarah
P.S. Good news! I checked on gro-scotland.gov.uk and the death records still exist from Carnock up through 1854. You should be able to order the reel from your local Family History Center. It would be reel 414/3:

Thanks for checking up on that Sarah,
The fellow first got into trouble, or a least first came to notice, in 1850, when he got together with a bunch of others and threw all the Irish out of Dunfermline. It was just all downhill from then on.
I did happen to stumble across a transcription of a letter written in 1761 about a funeral in Dunfermline that was attended by a number of Philps’. It’s quite quaint and I may transcribe it and post it as a separate item.
All the best,
Alan
