New OPR from 1835.....
Hopefully [-o< I have uploaded another example of an OPR with Banns and what appears to be poor relief payments in the parish to the gallery in examples of documents. It of course requires approval by moderators/admin. The file may need renaming to reflect that it is another example of OPR's. I also have an example of baptims from 1742 I could upload too

Hi Andrew
I nearly fell off my perch when I tried to re-upload the image and discovered it was 5mb so no chance of it being upload. I did upload hopefully and example of a 1742 baptism record.
I can only assume that all the additional information on the file prevents it from being uploaded.

Hello Jean
I also save my files in .tif, thanks for the information I will go and save it as a .jpeg. I never thought the OPR's would end up bigger files, just automatically saved them in the usual .tif format.
Teaching granny to sook eggs nah! You learn something new everday.

Hopefully the images have uploaded this time. I hope I did it right this time and both images are there awaiting approval.

Talk about giving yersel a guid red neck
just doesnt quite fit in this instance

This ain't OPR records, in the proper meaning of the proper definitionStewL wrote:....snipped ........... http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1080
Instead, it's the kirk's financial accounts as entered in the kirk session records, and, for this parish, copied across to the OPR microfilms, since there are records of proclamations (banns).
[NB for some churches, at certain periods, there wasn't a clear distinction and separation between the Old Parochial Register, and the records of the Kirk Session.]
Where such kirk session records existed, most often at NAS, they are known to have been copied quite often to the GROS ever since 1855, and were often incorporated into the records that were eventually microfilmed in the second half of the 20th century; which have become known as the "OPRs".
In other words, the GROS records are not just those birth and marriage records extracted from the Old Parochial Registers of the Established Church of Scotland, but also birth (baptism) records, and marriage (proclamation/banns) records that GROS were made aware of, principally from NAS, prior to the microfilming of GROS's, that existed in the kirk session records.

David
Thanks for the information on the file I finally uploaded.
After I sorted my impatience out last night
I had a good look through it. After reading your post I now can see that it is a financial record, albiet with the Banns there too. It listed mortcloth hirings, a benefactors legacy plus all the poor relief outgoings. Indeed a very interesting document to find.
