This from the Edinburgh Marriage Register:
'Imrie, Mr John, schoolmaster in par. of Moneydie; Margaret Duncan, late servant to Lady Bearford, in S.K. p. 11 June 1704.'
Well, I know that their daughter Margaret was living in Edinburgh at the time of her marriage to Thomas Philp, tailor in Leith (yes, it's the same family..)
Moneydie seems rather a long way away - does anybody know about the life of a schoolmaster then, or does anybody have connections in Perthshire that could shed light on this?
Imrie is a guid Perthshire name.. One assumes that Margaret Duncan was an Edinburgh lass (and there are far too many, even at that time, to work out fom the indexes who her parents may have been).
Alas, I have not found births of their children (Margaret or others) and so have no witness names.

On the one hand schoolmasters were a very mobile profession.
It's possible here that John Imrie was originally from Edinburgh, but it's equally possible that the Bearford family had a country estate in the County of Perth in the parish of Moneydie, or close by.
And then throw in the possibility that both John and Margaret Duncan were from Moneydie, and that Margaret went into service in Edinburgh, where there would have been many more opportunities than in the countryside.
Servants in upper class and aristocratic households in Edinburgh are commonly from all over Scotland, and sometime countries outside the UK as well, - the latter I'd imagine a status symbol
