Hi all, I have been looking for the marriage of Robert Baird and Christian Simson. On the IGI it is there on Batch no M196641 but no sign of it on Scotlands People.
The detail in the IGI say the authors are the Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Leuchars (Fifeshire).
SRO no. CH3/1209/8.
From previous mails by all on this list I have been given the impression that CofS records should be on S.P.
What am I missing, most likely the obvious, but I am learning .
all the best Bairdie

Hi Bairdie,
CH2/1209 (CH3 must be an error on the LDS website - CH3 is church records other than the Established Church of Scotland) is the Kirk Session and similar records Leuchars Parish of the (Established) Church of Scotland. CH2 is a separate set of records from the OPRs. As with most CH2 series records pertaining to the parishes in St Andrews Presbytery, the originals are held in St Andrews University Library, with copies held in the National Archives of Scotland (NAS, formerly known as the SRO) in Edinburgh. Some of the Kirk Session and similar records contain birth/baptism, banns/marriage and death/burial information. Where these have been found, they (all?) have been indexed into the IGI.
At some stage (could still be a few years way) these records should become available online. In the meantime, the digital image copies can be viewed onscreen in NAS, and presumably the originals can be seen in St Andrews.
Pre-1855, it is only the OPRs (and censuses) that are on ScotlandsPeople.
All the best,
AndrewP
