Sometimes the mind just boggles with these Ancestry translations.
Occupation: Geour & Apt Dealer....which is Grocer and Spirit Dealer.

Robert Ferguson married Jane McArthur 14 Jun 1870 Govan, Lanarkshire

Jane's parents: John McArthur/Christine Maule m. 10 Jul 1836 Glasgow
Janet 28 Apr 1837 Glasgow
Jane 27 Mar 1839 Glasgow

Hoping that someone connects with the unusual surname of MAULE.

Census states Christina born in Clackmannanshire
and John in Perthshire.

Thanks, Catriona, but I had already entered just the surname MAULE on Ancestry....and now realise that it is not as unusual as I had first thought.
Just less common.

I had also contacted the Guild of One-Name Studies for another less common, MCILWRICK, and have corresponded several times with the group administrator in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, although he already knew of my Margaret he had made no further connection.
But I suppose having reached 1718 this may well be my brickwall.....however not the end of my research.

Cheers
John
