If it is certain that the mother was an Agnes Cunningham (assume that's what it says on the birth?)
Indeed it is Agnes Cunningham on the BC as mum....and yes that looks like the correct 1871 census.
Best wishes

Hi Annie, yes I have checked out Quarriers about five years ago, it was through them that I found out where my grandmother and her sisters came from. I don't think they had a picture of them or they would of sent it to me at the time. Basically the piece of the puzzle that is missing it finding out who the father is, which is going to be somewhat harder. Thank you, and take care.

Hi Jean, it will be hard to track Lizzie because from my understanding and for what ever reason her dad decided to keep her. The sisters may have different fathers, not really sure though. Thank you and take care.

Hi riddell,
Have you checked out the birth certs for the other two girls? There may be some clue there. Finding a marriage or death cert for Lizzie would help also. How many of these avenues have you already explored?
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah, I have checked out my grandmothers birth certificate and there is no mention of her dad on it. I basicially went as far as emailing Quarriers five years ago, it was a task to find that information alone. At the time I did'nt know where my grandmother or her sisters lived while they were in Scotland and then when I came across Quarriers they were alot of help. They unfortunately did not know much about their dad or where to locate Lizzie at that time. Just recently I thought I would start looking again and see what I can find. Thank you, and take care.

Hi Annie, I checked out the picture that Quarriers gave you, by chance is there a Cunningham in there. I am unable to read the names its not very clear? I am sure you must of been thrilled when you received the picture.

About 200 years ago, yes

But it's so much easier to find Scots in the 19th century that I spend my time finding other people's ancestors
If I were you I'd look up the birth certs for Lizzie and Margaret. Using the approximate ages and birth places in the 1891 census, there appear to be births for those two, surnamed Cunningham of course. But there might be clues in there that would lead you back to find the fathers.
All the best,
Sarah

I did look to see if there was a Cunningham but sadly no. I found the link to Quarriers through looking at the Poor Registers at the Mitchell library. It was just luck, or maybe someone was guiding me to find them
Have you looked or had anyone look for them there? I got a lot of info as there was great detail about why mum was needing assistance and it referred to father of the children and why she was destitute.
I am hoping to go to Glasgow in the next few weeks if you'd like me to have a look for any possible clues?
Annie
