No, it was that they disconnected me..not enough logged on time. I just received an e-mail that I am active again, guess I won't log out and see if that works.

Not sure what you are referring to here; your membership to TS cannot be "disconnected" and there is no minimum time you must spend on TS to remain a member...
Was it your ISP you were referring to?

Was: I was posting a message and a window popped up that said I was inactive and showed a time counter, I logged on again and received an e-mail that said I was active...I don't know what it meant? And unfortunately I delete unneeded mail immediately, so I can't show you what I was sent.

Now I can say, It has to be my computer, I'm taking it in tomorrow as it's a mac/windows and my windows side crashed because I know for sure I replied earlier and it's not showing.

In regards to my family search, I have not come across anything that I can confirm for the children but have since been told that it's unlikely that they were sent to an orphanage as another of the younger siblings was taken care of by an older one and sent to school to train for her career, so it's possible the other ones were also. I haven't had the chance to contact Mitchell Library (from Russell) but will still look into it as you don't know for certain until you verify the information, all I know is they disappeared and they weren't with 3 of the oldest siblings after 1864 as I have checked their census' and they weren't taken back to S.Uist (not on census' there).

Hello MaryAnne,

Whenever I hear about computers behaving strangely I wonder if there's a Virus or Spyware that's causing all the trouble. Of course, that problem only relates to Windows machines because 99.9999999% of viruses and the like are Windows viruses. There is a rumour going round that they once found a Mac Virus but I'm not sure whether it is true. The only reason some Mac users have anti virus is in case someone sends them something, and they want to send it to someone else, they can check that it isn't contaminated.

However, if you have an Intel Mac, and have installed Windows, and are dual booting, or running a virtual machine, or whatever, then that Windows installation is just as vulnerable to all the nasties as any old Windows PC. You need to have Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, and Anti-everything else. Not only that, the security software and Windows needs to be kept up-to-date. Putting Windows on a Mac is what's known as a Downgrade.

You probably know all that, but others may not, so please ignore any of the above which does not apply.

And thank you Alan, everyone should definitely be aware that Windows is vulnerable, I do have security features for Windows that are automatically updated and full scans done daily and I try to do a weekly cleaning of the entire drive. The crash didn't happen from a virus, my brother was working on it, I needed to upgrade a few programs. What ever he did made my browser close if I tried to go back to a previous page, so he thought he would just reformat the windows drive and re-install it but it's a Mac/Windows and he's only worked on Windows, he couldn't re-install windows without a floppy and Macs don't have floppy's, he didn't know what he was doing so I said just leave it, I'll call our computer guy. I tried later and managed to download the drivers needed but it still won't accept the disc for the drivers..so it's off to our computer guy.
I agree, some people think it's a downgrade to the Mac if you add Windows to it. I purchased the Mac/Windows as the kids were using Mac in school and I like Windows, so it worked for all of us. The bonus was that Mac wasn't/isn't? vulnerable to viruses so if the kids did mess up using my Windows side, I could still access Window files and use the Mac side till we took it in. Thank goodness they have laptops now, but I hate using these things (laptops), give me a keyboard and mouse any day.

You sound as if you’ve got everything under control. I much prefer a big desktop computer, one that has plenty of room for both hands and both feet when I pull it to pieces.

Hi Annette,

Thank you for trying, I am now in contact with a 4th cousin? and she just went to the Mitchell Library yesterday. She said the staff had helped her in her search but found nothing.

I should delete this posting looking for orphans as the information coming in and what we've found this week are proving otherwise.

Little Duncan's death was found 10 days after his father's, there is no parent listed but with the death of his father and they could have been dealing with nursing another child through small pox at home, we do know another had it. With everything going on, Catharine or his siblings weren't able to be with him. I also found an older brother's death (I put wrong dates) a year later, he died of Typhus Phitisis.

Someone has mentioned that the family could have been run out of town, that could be a possibility and we will either find them elsewhere or we could be looking for their deaths.

I thank you for all your time and effort but I think we won't find any orphans for this family. I can only hope that the few remaining survived.
