OK here's a shot from me. I think you have twins here.
Monday the 17 of Novr 1684
Patrick beatone and Elspeth hall his spous of this congregation had tv??
infants baptized Wm and Dauid [the next word I think may be a contraction of sponsors]
Wm [damaged name but may be buchanan] Thomas hall and Patrick hall were borne vpon ?Friday last at 7 hours at night
I'll have another look at it to see if it gets any clearer but I think some of that is right.

Re: 1684 OPR Birth Record Help
Ah, good thinking Anne!
I seemed to have too many Wms, and was a bit stuck with the bit between the two "Wm" looking marks.
I was thinking Buchannan, but did not want to jump to conclusions!

Curses Batman. Just as I was trying to post my internet went down. Just to say that SP does indeed have a record for Dauid Beatone at the same date and place.

Re: 1684 OPR Birth Record Help
Anne - I think we at TS have cracked it. I'd agree with "sponsors". Not sure of the precise time of birth going from the handwriting, but heck, other than that I think we have it!
Not sure if Tracey has been back?

Re: 1684 OPR Birth Record Help
Hi - I know it's been a while since this was posted - I think the strange word thought to be a contraction of 'sponsors' is just 'W' for 'witnesses' - compare it with the first letter of 'Wm'.
Also 'tua' for two.
