Hi Joette, I saw on another forum connected to another, rather expensive hobby, the term "SKI".........................yes, "Spending the Kids´Inheritance" :) Don't feel guilty, we´re all at it!

Hi Scozzie and all who had problems with the LDS site.

Did you solve your problem with the "expired page" message and if so, please tell me how you solved the problem?

I had the same problem but since my time was taken up with so many other little chores I left it hoping the problem would solve itself...it hasn't. I emailed LDS and received a reply with three tips on how to solve the problem...none helped. Since I'm not very computer literate I finally called them today and a very nice lady walked me through the same steps I had already tried and told me that would take care of all my problems...it didn't! I sent another email and received a response telling me that the problem seems to be with my computer and gave me several more tips...none worked.

I don't think it's my computer - it's not even a year old and have never had this problem in the years I've used the family search site. The only change I made was switching from a dial-up to DSL but that was about a month before this problem started...besides, looking over your posts I wasn't the only one getting the "expired page" message at the time. So if anyone can give me any ideas on how to solve this, I'd really appreciate it.

Regards,
AnneH

Hi Anne - I contacted LDS, explained my problem.... and I probably got the same reply you did. I tried everything they suggested (at least six times) and I'm still having the same result, page expiring etc, verrrrrrrrrrry frustrating. It's a long lunch break.

Did the advice include Tools/InterNet Options/and clearing the history and deleting cookies in InterNet Explorer or whatever browser you use?

If you use the back button you will get the page expired. Then have to refresh the page to go back to start.
Instead of hitting the back button use the (Search Results) Tag, below IGI Individual Record, this will always take you back to page you where last on. If you want to get back to the IGI page itself then use the (refine search) Tag.

Using the above I never have problems with page expired, only if I forget and use the back button.

Thanks for the answer Alan. I was becoming frustrated with the "page expired" error.

All the best,

Scozzie...yes, very frustrating!

David...

Yes, and that's the one they walked me through but still didn't work.

If anyone is interested here are the suggestions they made:

Response to my first email…
If you click the Back button, and you get a Page Expired message, do one or all of the following:

1. Make sure that you have cookies enabled for your browser (or for the FamilySearch site, if you have Internet Explorer 6).
2. Download the latest update for your browser the Microsoft Web site (www.microsoft.com).
3. Make sure that the time is set correctly on your computer. If the time on your local system is too many minutes faster than the standard time kept on the Internet, then you might have problems using the FamilySearch site or any other site that uses cookies.

Response to my second email…
Unfortunately it seems to be your computer that is having a problem.

We gave you one solution, the one that we mostly use. We also have another troublshooting tips list. You may want to give them a go.

Troubleshooting tips for Internet browsers that have trouble displaying FamilySearch Internet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Symptoms:
Problem accessing or using the features of FamilySearch Internet.
Registration or signing in do not work properly.
Only part of the screen appears after signing in.
Resolution:
Below are some basic troubleshooting tips if you are having trouble with FamilySearch Internet. The ideas can apply to any browser, but the instructions were written specifically for Microsoft® Internet Explorer running in Windows®.

Make sure the browser is set to accept cookies.
See if FamilySearch Internet is in your Trusted sites zone.
Make sure the time on the taskbar is set correctly (an incorrect clock can interfere with cookies and downloading).
Make sure the browser is set to use PCT 1.0 and TLS 1.0 language scripting (this usually helps with problems signing on using Windows 98 running Internet Explorer 6).
Make sure the browser has active scripting enabled.
If you have high-speed Internet access, adjust the settings for your firewalls.
Set to accept cookies

Internet Explorer 5 or 5.5:
Open Internet Explorer.
Click Tools, and click Internet options.
Click the Security tab, and select one of the four zones.
After selecting a zone, click the Custom Settings button.
Under the option Allow Cookies, select Enable.
Under the option Allow per sessions cookies, select Enable.
Repeat steps 3–6 until you have enabled cookies in all four zones.
Restart your computer.
Internet Explorer 6:

Open Internet Explorer.
Click Tools, and click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
If you want to change the settings for all sites by using the sliding bar, click the Default button. If you want to enable cookies for only FamilySearch, click the Edit button.
If you clicked the Default button:
Move the slider bar down to the setting Accept all cookies.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
If you clicked the Edit... button:
Type www.familysearch.org in the Address of Web site field.
Click Allow.
Click OK.
On the next window, click OK.
Restart your computer.
Add FamilySearch to the Trusted sites zone

Internet Explorer 6:
On the menu bar, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Click and highlight Trusted sites.
Click the Sites button.
Remove the check mark from the box beside Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.
In the Add the Web site to the zone field, type www.familysearch.org and then click Add.
Click OK.
Click OK.
Set the time on the task bar

On a blank spot on your taskbar, right-click once.
Click Adjust Date/Time.
In the Time area, change the time on the clock.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Set to use PCT or TLS

Quit Internet Explorer (if it is running).
Open the Control Panel.
Double-click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section.
Clear the Use PCT 1.0 selection.
Clear the Use TLS 1.0 selection.
Click OK.
If you do not have check marks next to TLS 1.0 and PCT1.0, put them there, and try accessing the site again.
Enable active scripting

For Internet Explorer 5 or 6:

On the menu bar, click Tools, and click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
At the bottom, click the Custom Level button.
Scroll down the list until you find the section called Scripting.
Under Active scripting, select Enable.
The system will ask if you want to change the setting. Click Yes.
Click OK.
Go to FamilySearch Internet (www.familysearch.org). If you are already there, click the refresh button on the tool bar.

As with Andrew - many, many thanks for the advice...my fingers thank you also. May I send LDS a copy of your post to enlighten them as to a way that actually works and maybe they can pass it along to others who are having the problem...with all they do go help us with their free site we can help them also...or in this case, you will be helping them?

Again, many thanks, much appreciated!

AnneH

...and i thought it was me. Previously i have entered names from a known marriage and been provided with details of all the children. Just lately i have entered other couples names and been given no more information than confirming that such a marriage took place on a certain date.
I then go back in time to re enter the family names that previously gave me the childrens names also, only to find that feedback is limited to confirmation of a marriage and no family details.
Is it me or is it them?
