Anne, ye wid be better stickin' tae "The Leopard" up ther'This mag, for which someone bought me a subscription at Christmas, once managed to expunge from history 3 out of 4 of Scotland's ancient universities, namely Glasgow , Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Now see the August edition at page 25 for a Cooks tour of the history of religious denominations in Scotland that manages to omit any mention of the Covenant or, even more surprising since the article deals with religious record keeping, the Great Disruption of 1843. I am no ecclesiastical historian but I feel another letter to the ed coming on.
I occasionally get a copy send down here, and it at least has some guid mince in it.
I have never read any decent genealogy magazine and in fairness never the YFT.
I think this from Scott sums the topic of these mags well.
And if anyone needs any help with the Covenanters or the Disruption, I have several books on the subjects.I suspect that even if there was a solely Scottish gen mag, it would be lampooned for neglecting it's southern neighbours!
Thanks to David for the copy of the letter.
well done that Man!
I thought it was a bonus when they gave us the seven day access.
I have never ventured on any of the English sites, but plan to have a go this week.
Any advice on which ones you have found guid value on would be appreciated.
Davie
