Hi Thomsos
If trying to do this, my method has been to make a list of possible marriages (from IGI or SP), then do a death search on SP - if it is a male, the wife & parent's names should also be given (OK forget 1856-60!!) if its a female you can search using a cross ref. on both names - if she's the right one, the parents names are there so you know if it's one of yours.

You can also use any census records to see where spouses of any likely candidates were born - at which point you either follow them up via the death route (above) or ditch 'em!

But there will always be some guess work and an element of luck when tracing forward. If they move out of their "home" area and have a frequently occuring names (try an Ann(ie) Smith  - dont laugh, I have one!! :( ) it can be a right royal pain....

Best wishes
Lesley

thomsos wrote:Sorry Russell, maybe I'm not reading it correctly, when I key in William Jamieson and Jane Mcquaker it only manages to bring up Susan Jamieson on the British IGI, however when I key in Hugh Jamieson and spouse Eliz. Jury, I get there family, but I have no proof that I have the correct Hugh, son of William and Jane.

and Thanks Tracey, will check your suggestion out.

Hi Thomas, Hugh and Elizabeth married in 1860 well after it became mandatory to report Hatches, Matches and Dispatches. William and Jane were not required to report the births, indeed, Susan's entry is a Baptism not her birth. It's likely that William and Jane didn't bother to have any of the rest of the children baptised.

Two of the children, directly after Susan, were born in Kirkmichael (Jane's place of birth) they then moved back to Dailly where the next four were born, sometime between 1855 and 1861 the family moved to Riccarton.

You know who Hugh and Susan married so only six to go:

The way I do this is to get a rough age of the person, say Andrew born abt 1848 in Ayr, go to Family Search add 23 years to the birth year and do a marriage search 5 years plus or minus, starting in Ayr. There are 5 but only one in Riccarton:

1. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 22 OCT 1866 Kirkmichael, Ayr, Scotland
2. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 13 SEP 1867 Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland
3. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 01 JAN 1869 Loudoun, Ayr, Scotland
4. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 01 JAN 1873 Galston, Ayr, Scotland
5. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 17 JUN 1873 New Cumnock, Ayr, Scotland

The first one I'd check is the Riccarton one to Margaret Irvine, pound to a penny it's the right Andrew.

Do the same for William, Alexander, Mary, John and Thomas. It may take a while but if you can narrow it down the search is a bit easier.

IGI has three children to Andrew and Margaret:

1. ANDREW JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 11 AUG 1873 Dailly, Ayr, Scotland
2. JOHN JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 14 JUL 1871 Dailly, Ayr, Scotland
3. WILLIAM JAMIESON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 26 MAY 1869 Kirkoswald, Ayr, Scotland

There will probably be others after 1873. After 1874 you'll have to use Scotland's People again narrowing down the dates.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

I looked last night and couldnt see an entry for this on SP to back this up ? Hugh Jamieson and Elizabeth Jury or even just Hugh Jamieson m 1860 ? only the entry on LDS site which i cant remember if it was user submitted or not

Given the age of the eldest child we're looking for a marriage about 1878 There is one to Elizabeth Adams, the correct one.

I'll leave the rest to you.
