Hope you're also planning to celebrate the American Labour Day tomorrow
Hi Ina... just don't wake me when you finally get in...

I will hoist a glass to celebrate both
- Labour Day (Canada, because that's where I am ...), and
- Labor Day (US) [Ina, you're using the British/Canadian spelling!], and
- (ok, all three) my wife's day of labour (many moons ago!), for our son :P

In fact, less than two more hours to go (Eastern Daylight Time)...
I think I'll start celebrating now!

StewL: I can't explain your problem. Did you register recently, or was it long ago using a different e-mail address? Sorry, no other ideas...

Hi Stew,

Do you get the feeling they are playing games with you. If they keep this up the 24 hours will have run out and they won't have to give you any free lookups

Did ANYONE manage to use this site for free? When I click on the link talking about free access it says:

"FREE ACCESS FOR TO THE ORIGINS NETWORK FOR 24 HOURS ON THE 4th SEPTEMBER- LABOR DAY OFFER!
The Origins Network (www.originsnetwork.com) is offering free access to both British and Irish Origins on the 4th September to celebrate US Labor Day. Free access will begin at 00.00GMT and will run until 08.00GMT on the 5th September 2006. In order to access, simply go to www.originsnetwork.com and "click on the link to sign up or login". "

Then when I do that it goes to the subscription page and it looks like you have to PAY to enable registration.

I find this whole site very confusing, and have not yet managed to get a free anything!

Rip off!

Hi, I have to say this is always a most reliable and informative site. I NEVER have a problem with it, so tend not to think it is 'a rip-off' or a 'con job' They have run offers like this before, and have had no problems, so I suspect a gremlin or Leprachaun in the works. I registered again under spouses e-mail addy, registered fine, but no free access. (however I did see a box to enter promotional code, and could not find prom. code to enter!!)

Have sent a contact form (sounds familiar -re a well known Scottish site  ) so will wait to see if I get a reply.

It worked for me. I signed up, but instead of paying for membership in any of the choices, I just clicked on the origins searches on the left sidebar and got into the site free. I admit that it is not obvious! It seems to be requiring that you pay for membership, but then it turns out to work without it...
Good luck!

Nope, All I am getting is a free search thing, and only for Scots records AND only from the IGI. But once found, nothing is free. Isn't that always the case anyway? It won't let me search British or Irish records, because it says I am not logged in.

So I guess I need to know what they mean by "Free Access"?

Well, I guess "free" is the drawcard, but only if you spend money, I would have considered spending if on the "free" trial I found the site worthwhile.
Thats what I did with Ancestry, and have now been a subscriber for 4 years, and find it worthwhile.

The only time I have used Origins, is for Scotland, and that is free, but the only results found have been from the familysearch, when I could have had the same results going direct to familysearch, this makes me consider that the Irish results may just be what I could get on LDS site.

Well, you're right  I was only searching Scots Origins... For me it was worthwhile, since it allowed me to search the IGI with only a first name, which is impossible on SP and very tedious on Familysearch, since you need to keep changing the batch number. Also, I may be wrong, but they seem to have got their information from GROS rather than Familysearch. The latter site is not complete (I regularly find things on SP that are not in Familysearch).

Anyway, you're right that it is not working as it should, although it did help me by allowing the first name search. :D
