I think the safest option is, If in doubt, Don't.
On here, if a link is on a posting, check when the poster joined before clicking on it.
Why do they do it? - Because they can! These folk compete with each other to do the best ones (that's their word not mine).

Don't let these idiots spoil a good forum like ours
I'm sure it would be possible to have a probation system where posts by "new members" have to be approved by moderators before they appear on site.
This member should be removed PDQ

If were talking about pesh47 his /hers two post were quarantined at 9.11am and 9.12am this morning so they shouldnt have been showing after that on forum and when i checked they wernt. Also pesh47 has been showing (to me) since then (as he/she still is) as our newest member and not on line. Ive got my eye on them till admin wakeAnother string of those spam postings just appeared from a "new member". It seems only the two of us are online at this moment. Look out!

Sarah

I saw them somewhat after the time they were supposed to have been quarantined and sent my message immediately after that. But obviously something was happening since I didn't get a message that a reply had been posted to a topic I was following, as I should have in some of the cases if it had been a normal post (what a sentence

I guess the quarantining had that effect? At least they're gone now!
