I'm going to give Park Circus a visit. This should be educational for me as my family name has so many variations to it over the last fifty years. Polockus, Palokas, Paliokas and Pollockus (god help me) eeekkk....

i have never been to park circus but i think i will give it a go and see how i get on.

Hmmmm......... now that could be a problem

There's an alternative search technique which may be worth considering, but, to work more efficiently than DIGROS, you need to know that all or most of the events took place in just very few registration districts.

It also requires access to the microfiches, - can someone confirm if these are still available at Park Circus, please.

The technique is as follows. At the very end of each register, there is an alphabetic index, and this will be the last image(s) on the last fiche, if there are several.

In other words, you just run your eyes down the "Ps" and see what turns up!

Hello Everyone
How far is Park Circus and may as well add the Mitchell as well from the Central Train station.
Would you have to get a bus or taxi and if a bus where are the bus stops nearest to the station and what location would be displayed on the bus?

For the Mitchell easiest way from Central is from the low level station at Central one stop to Anderston, and then a few minutes walk across, - I mean above, the motorway to the Mitchell.

Maybe a 15 minute walk (10 mins if you're a quick walker ?

, and don't stop to say hullo to the Sheriff of Calton Creek) from Anderston to Park Circus but there has to be a bus that goes along Woodlands Road that will get you closer ......

Yes David, all the fiche are still there.
But only for the old Strathclyde area, and these aren't as up to date as the DIGROS system.
I'm glad they are because if you get a poor image on the screen the fiche is often a bit clearer.

One piece of advice - write your list of spelling varients before you go and tick them off after each search. Don't panic it will take less time than you think.

Hi Rita,
As David mentioned, there are buses in Glasgow...

For The Mitchell -
The nos. 9 Drumchapel, or 62 Faifley bus will take you there from the Central Station.
The bus stops for them are on Hope Street which is only yards from the station. A very frequent service.
Come out the main entrance, turn left, and the bus stop is just across the road.
It's only 5 minutes or so on the bus, but maybe say to driver that you need to know where to get off !
(at the stop on St. Vincent Street just past North Street where the M8 is)
After getting off, cross over the street at the the traffic lights at North St.
The Mitchell is just abt 250 yds away.

Park Circus is only a 5 min walk (uphill) from The Mitchell.
(actually to get to Park Circus from anywhere it's uphill)

The buses that go nearest to it are the nos. 11 Parkhall or 44/44A Knightswood
The 44/44A would be best because they too can be got on Hope St. A fairly frequent service.
And again only abt a 5 min journey.

You need to get off at the 1st stop on Woodlands Rd, just after Charing Cross.
Then a walk up Lyndoch Street and, unless you've looked at a map, ask someone where Park Circus is.
