Hi all
From the OPRs I've seen whether the mother is mentioned or not seems to depends on the parish and the session clerk (or whoever was writing up the records at the time) - no hard or fast rules, I don't think, but it does seem that the further back you go, the more likely it is that it will be just the father. This is just based on OPRs I have seen.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi all

I just got my first 1742 OPR birth and baptisms yesterday :D

There were ten entries on the page, nine wee lassies and one wee laddie baptised over a three month period. Not one entry mentions the mother although it gives the fathers occupation. If the one I have is the right one then my lang deid yin wis a sailor, it was in Peterhead, Aberdeen. Although without the mothers name it is a bit iffy if it is the right one, also considering I thought they were in Angus. Though that is not a real problem as they are next door to each other and could have moved later on.
