Hi Tracey
Yes, there have certainly been a few "blippy" moments; e.g. click to see next page of results, and a couple of times the page has loaded with a blank section where the results should be!!

Also at one point I did end up with some US results I had not asked for... Good to hear it is not just me its happening to.
I expect today being the day it is, the site is very busy.

Best wishes
Lesley

For once i knew the results i was getting had nothing to do with my searching skills  but today has been especially bad. Dont think i will be renewing my sub (tomorrow) until this freebie period is over.

Ooh, Tracey, be careful of that. I have read elsewhere that if you let the subscription lapse and rejoin at a later point it is far more expensive. I don't know how they can do that, but it seems they can.

Researching: Easton ( Renfrewshire, Dunbarton and Glasgow), Corr (Londonderry and Glasgow), Carson (Co. Down, Irvine, Ayrshire and Glasgow), Logan (Londonderry and Glasgow)

Hi Nina

I think you might be confusing the price sub with Genesreunited. Ancestrys sub prices are always the same, they dont do you any favours :) .

It's not just UK Military records that are free.I was looking at WW1 US Draft too although they wouldn't let me view the full WW2 ones which had a few "family names"(unusual combinations which make me think they're mine.
One of the records I viewed Tracey was a John Donaldson from Pittenweem & Beauly -any relation? He was gassed WW1 & blinded.
Researching:SCOTT,Taylor,Young,VEITCH LINLEY,MIDLOTHIAN
WADDELL,ROSS,TORRANCE,GOVAN/DALMUIR/Clackmanannshire
CARR/LEITCH-Scotland,Ireland(County Donegal)
LINLEY/VEITCH-SASK.Canada
ALSO BROWN,MCKIMMIE,MCDOWALL,FRASER.

Hi Joette, Lesley and all,

Have any of you looked at the military collection on FindMyPast? It's a breeze to search! I found 7 Thomas Waddells, and multiple Duff's, McAulays but you need first names and places of birth to sort them out.

Didn't check any of the other names you've been talking about.

Carol :D
Looking for: Clerihew, Longmuir/Longmore, Chalmers, Milne, Barclay in Newhills,
Munro, Cadenhead, Raitt, Ririe/Reary

Well, I've finally had some success at last! I didn't find the names I was actually wanting to find but I did find three others. Although burnt looking and not very legible there's a lot of great information on them.

One of the poor souls,Thomas Hogg only served for 39 days and died from flu (although he seems to have died at home of tuberculosis and meningitis). His widow was awarded a pension of 22/6d a week for herself and the four children beginning 30th August 1915, so she had to wait about 6 months from when he died in February before receiving anything. The children's names and birth dates are an added bonus (I only had one of them).

His brother, George Mackenzie Hogg on the other hand lasted about 3 years getting into all kinds of trouble from being late for parade, being dirty and not dressed properly for parade, lost or had a reduction in pay several times and lost his rank from cpl. to pvt. and seems to have been sent to prison for 3 months for stealing and receiving stolen goods before he was discharged.

I'm still reading through the other one!

By the way...make sure to check the previous pages to the page that opens up. I almost lost out on about 27 pages because the one that opened up first was the second to last. So always good to check.

All in all, good finds. :D

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Carol,

Glad you mentioned Find My Past. I never think to look at that site but decided to have a look to see if I could find my grandfather's brother Michael Harty who died in WW1 and doesn't seem to be on Ancestry. I haven't actually bought credits yet, but I do believe he's there. Now I know where to look when funds permit. :)

Regards,
Anne H

Good point, Anne. I came across the same problems with a few other image sets.
