Sheena

I've seen your articles over the years (in fact I've got a wee collection of yours and David's) and when I saw your name on this site I was pretty sure it was you! What a small world... I actually said to Lesley or Catriona a couple of weeks ago that I thought I knew you!!

How are you doing?

Hi Russell

Can't believe it is actually Sheena, although with her red hair (which matches my sister) I was reasonably sure! We come from Lochwinnoch, which as you know living in Kilbarchan, is a very small village! We were at school together!

You'll be glad to know that my filing is coming on ...

Liz

PS -Again Davie - sorry for the hijack of your post 8) If you ever tear yourself away from the southside and make it to the west end, it would be great to meet for a chat! In fact, I'm changing jobs at the Uni and will be moving to a building within about 400 yds of Park Circus! No excuse then ...

Well let's see if we can organise a wee meet for those around the West End or even those going to Park Circus. Maybe a separate post??

Got it in almost one - Lochwinnoch isn't really on the road to anywhere! You sort of pass it in the distance going to Beith/Dalry down the A737 - it was a great wee village to grow up in and although it's grown a bit, it's still not bad.

Lylell/Lyle families

Post by Margaret » Sat Jul 29, 2006 4:20 am

Hello Russell, Just noticed that you are researching Lyle family from all over. I have Lyle/lyell connection to so thought I would send it out to you just in case there is a match up :)
My Great Grandparents were

Henry Miller/Millar married Janet Galloway in Riccarton in 1856,
Henry was the son of Jean Lyell and John Millar married in Mauchline in 1825,

Jean was the daughter of Henry Lyell and Mary Noble who were married in 1793 in Mauchline

Henry Lyell was the son of William Lyell and Janet Main, Henry was born abot 1765 in Newburgh Fife.

I now the spelling is different, but I sit out here in Australia hoping that maybe I have found another link to my chain
Cheers

Hi Liz
Isn't it a small world! I kept wondering if the "Liz Turner" posting could be you but didn't want to make a total eejit of myself  until you mentioned Lochwinnoch. The last time I was home, one of my mum's cronies informed the world that my hair was fading  so warn Morag if it hasn't already started happening to her (although Morag's hair was much redder than mine)

I don't manage to get up to Glasgow very often, but next time I'm plannig to head that way I'll get in touch & maybe we can arrange to meet up.

No, it's the wee place the bus passed through on the way to Largs

I'm getting homesick now ..... and when I was a kid I never thought I'd say that about Lochwinnoch!

Hi Margaret

Sorry it's taken a couple of days to reply but you asked

Hello Russell, Just noticed that you are researching Lyle family from all over. I have Lyle/lyell connection too so thought I would send it out to you just in case there is a match up

My Lyles are from Paisley/Johnstone with perhaps a 'wilds of Kilbarchan' link there somewhere.

Liz and I are planning to sort out DavidWW soon for casting nasturtiums (I thought aspersions were another variety of flower :? )about our sleepy hollow villages.

This thread should be entitled 'the Happy Wanderer' It has gone all over the place.
If another red-headed Lochwinnochite joins in I'll have serious doubts about inter-marriage in small rural communities. My brother is red-headed and lived in Lochwinnoch too

The best bet for me in establishing parentage etc is to actually look at the OPR & with a fairly unusual name-McKimmie & smallish Parishes Ordiquihill & Bortrphinie with good records have just found my 7xtimes Great-Uncle which as he did have parents names on his death certificate am able to go back 9 generations to1739 to John Mckimmie & Ann Farghuar & the birth of their first child-Jean.
Then you have the ?????? is it the same John McKimmie who had a child in fornication with Lillias Leslie in 1737-I think probably as it is the same location-Foniebeg & knowing the McKimmies very likely too.
The surprise was there were only two "Eadem temfoni??" births with McKimmie between 1737-1804.I did not recognise the Latin but presume it is a Latinised version of "shot the crow without a ring on her finger"
It also helps that they lived until after 1855.I couldn't understand why so many were turning up as Paupers formerly whatever then I realised they were living to be 80+++ which with no Pension explained it all.
