We'll probably find out the first day of your subscription is free !! They are certainly not doing their reputation any favours with people from all over the world trying unsuccessfully to access their "offer"

I called Origins this morning - like i'm expecting them to call me back  and suggested they check out the various genealogy web sites to see the response to their "Freebie" and as a gesture to post an explanation  .
Just in case they did call me back  and blame aol =; (as lots of sites do for all sorts of things) for me not being able to search for free i connected via my hotmail account and that was having none of it either.

Well it must have done some good, thank you Tracey, because now I can access the British and Irish records, but only as a free search...which seems to be limited.

But it is my bedtime now, so you all have fun trying to work it out...I will miss most of it!

NO free access

Post by donna petrie » Mon Sep 04, 2006 2:40 pm

HI everyone: Most of you probably know this but here is the message I got when I went to try for the free day. "Due to an unexpectedly high demand for our Free Access offer, we are temporarily unable to allow any new free registrations. We hope to allow new free registrations later in the day so please check back later. Origins Network Team. 4 September 2006 "

I suggest we just go out and enjoy our day off - days are drawing in and it's a sunny day were I am. Beside I have a 24-hour-old grand-nephew to visit. Donna

It seems to be working now... fortunately, I registered at the site a while back (but did not pay for any subscriptions), so I can get in and search the British Origins portion of the site.

I managed to get into the Free Site for British and Irish Records, it certainly is not a very friendly user site ..... I started searching the 1841 and 1871 British Census only to find out it is NOT a complete census, only some districts, and the Irish records were useless for me ...... I used Scots Origins years ago before Scotlands People came on board ........

It makes me appreciate the Scotlands People site, I have had so much success and with all the helpful people of TS :D
