I have no idea how complete the census information is but according to those who use Origins the indexing is second to none - unlike that well known site we all persevere with for English ancestors  .
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Bibby, Can I ask why you thought it was a rip-off? Did you already have G.V. which gave you his townland of birth? I think I already told you on the Irish thread that there were no marriage records for Irish on this site. Many people would only be too pleased to have found the Townland and Parish of their ancestors birth. G.V. also gives how much land they were renting, the value of their house (and land), who their neighbours were, and also their landlord. It also tells the date of G.V. for that particular district, which can be invaluable in itself.

So, to sum up, it may not have been helpful to you personally, but it is not a rip-off!

the following message was posted this morning regarding not being able to access the site:

Labor Day Access

On 4 September (USA Labor Day), our free access offer resulted in the
highest traffic levels we have experienced, and unfortunately some
users had access problems. We do apologise for this, and are working to
increase our traffic handling capacity (already above what we normally
need) before our next free access offer.

The service was unavailable for about 4 minutes around 1100 GMT on 4
September, and because of the very high traffic we decided to stop new
free registrations between 1300-1600 GMT. There were two further
service interruptions of a few minutes each around 1800 GMT.
If you were not successful in taking up our free offer this time, there
wil be more. If have opted to receive our emailed newsletter, you will
automatically receive notification of our next free access offer.

If you plan to try to take advantage of the next free offer, you might consider registering now (for free), during the slack time.
