I have just had a wonderful virtual tour of the Mitchell, and was amazed at the sources for research available there.
I have a copy of a Death Certificate for one of my 'lang deid yins' who passed away in the Combination Poorhouse in Dunbarton. How would I go about finding the Poor Law Application that got him in there?
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot in the forum, but I just got carried away!

Hi Wee Ann,
If you PM me the details - name, and date/year/place of birth of your 'lang deid yin', I'll have a look to see if there is a poor relief application in the Mitchell, as I'm going there on Saturday. I'm actually going to so that I can get a quiet spot to write up some work completely unconnected to family history, but I can easily pop into the archive section for you.
If there is an application, I might not be able to see it on Saturday as you have to search the database for a reference first, then order up the volume. Sometimes there are no backroom staff working on a Saturday, but I can let you know if there's a reference and I'll order up the volume in advance for a future visit, as I'll be at the Mitchell most Saturdays from now until June.
Best wishes
Brian

Mitchell Library visit
Hi Brian,
WOW! Thank you for your swift reply.
The 'lang deid yin' in question was Hugh Gillen, who died on the 1st February 1880 in Dumbarton Combination Poorhouse of Disease of the Heart. I think that he was born in Ireland, possibly Donegal.
Would you need any more information from the death certificate to be able to find if there was an application?Thank you so much for doing this for me. I love being in Australia, but there are disadvantages.Best regards
Ann
