Curiousfox website

Post by speleobat2 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 9:29 pm

Found this website a while back, but haven't had time to do anything with it. The website has two levels free and paid (5 pounds). You post an entry with the information about the surname you are searching for and people can contact you through the website. Your personal information is never shown. One side of the message must be a paid membership so if you are a freebie, then the person you contact must be paid. You can do surname searches free anytime. Includes all of the UK and now Ireland too. I just posted for Clerihew and Barclay, Chalmers.

Hi Carol,I went into that site a while back, and lo and behold someone was looking for my husbands family!Turned out to be a long lost cousin from Saltcoats, now living in England. She was a tremendous help with info we didnt have, and we were able to fill in a few blanks for her! Also exchanged pics and could see family resemblance right away. She was coming to visit at Christmas but hubby was too ill, then he died.
Although they never got to meet, she sent beautiful flowers to hospital and graveside!
Im so glad I checked out that site, and still hoping to meet a few of my own rellies there :)

Cheers Nancy

ps,I told her about this site and she joined it and posted right away :)

Nancy,

Talk about a bittersweet story! I'm sorry about your husband, but I'm glad you found his cousin. Whenever any of us posts a website, having someone find a relative is what we're all hoping for!

Maybe the next find will be one of yours or one of mine!

Carol :)

Tracey

I have a marriage of a Barbara Barclay to a John McGregor, (1838 - Dunfermline) plus three children in my tree - are these of any interest to you. They lived first in Inverkeithing but then moved to Ayrshire.

Hi Tracey,

The Barclay website was a new one for me. Thanks!

I think this lot may be too far north for my family, but it's hard to tell really because many of the men were ministers and travel all over according to their church assignments. I found one from Newhills who ended up in Peterhead thoroughly confusing the issue! :? The same is true of the Chalmers family. I'll have to take a closer look at the website. On the first glance I found a James Barclay Chalmers! Now wouldn't that solve all my problems very neatly?!!!

Carol

I find CuriousFox a very interesting and useful site as it works by either name or place, so you can sometimes find connections you didn't know about through people living in the same place.
