I remember reading somewhere that there was a fire in this church. I'm looking for OPR records from around 1800-1835. Does anyone know if recods during this time were destroyed?
Thanks,
Nadine

Hi Nadine,
The OPR list from the GROS website shows the following bolumes in the OPRs for St Ninian's.
488 St Ninian's, Stirlingshire
488/1 . . B 1643-1687 . . M (none) . . . . . D (none)
488/2 . . B 1688-1731 . . M (none) . . . . . D (none)
488/3 . . B 1731-1783 . . M (none) . . . . . D (none)
488/4 . . B 1783-1819 . . M (none) . . . . . D (none)
488/5 . . B (none) . . . . . M 1688-1819 . . D (none)
488/6 . . B 1820-1854 . . M 1820-1854 . . D (none)
RNE
The thing that these lists don't tell you is if there are any gaps in the years of coverage of these volumes. In theory, this list ought to have the same coverage pre-1855 as the list Annette found on the Hugh Wallis website.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hello Nadine,
The state of St. Ninians, Stirlingshire, was described on page 152 of this google book in 1849 (but may have been updated since)
Scottish Parochial Registers: by William Barclay Turnbull - 1849
http://books.google.com/books?id=aCELAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA3
SAINT NINIANS.—" The oldest parochial register is that of births and baptisms, commencing at 1643, and continued downwards with a blank betwixt 1711 and 1717. Proclamation of banns, at 1688, has two blanks, viz., from 1719 to 1725, and from
1754 to 1774. The session records, down to 1838, are contained in ten volumes folio. The first volume now in existence, commences November 1653, but there is part of a minute, dated 1608, and two extracts from a former volume, 1631, and 1639, are entered anew under 1699.—The record of births is very imperfect, and none of deaths is kept."
