Old Bailey Online

Post by scooter » Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:57 am

The Old Bailey online website now has trials from the period 1834 - 1913 online (full range: 1674 - 1913) which may be of interest to someone whose ancestor fell foul of the law, or was even a witness at a trial. My GGGG Grandfather's trial is listed - oh the shame of it!

I have been trying to use this all morning, but it keeps crashing. It is also extremely slow, I think everyone in Britain must be trying to get onto it just now! :)

Hi Chris,

Yes, I was lucky, although I managed to go away and make a cup of tea before the page loaded! There was a link on the BBC website (amongst others) so I guess it will be a few days before it calms down. The new design works well, and the search function greatly enhanced - plus there are a few other resources for trials before 1834 that weren't previously online, however like you, I couldn't view those.

As it turned out, the information on GGGG Grandaddy John was the same as I'd already unearthed at Kew last year, but it was still nice to get a digital image instead of the rotten photocopy I made at the time.

Good luck!

Scott

P.S. It would be nice if there was a similar website for Scottish trials!
