A cheaper way to an ancestry sub

Post by Glen TK » Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:29 pm

If like me you find it difficult to try and use the library for research because of access or opening times etc and as a result have an ancestry sub bear this in mind;

My sub is up for renewal soon and i'm in two minds as to whether to renew, the UK sub now has two options at approx £84 and £109 respectively. Existing uk memberships will have to pay the higher fee to maintain access to the same amount of records they currently enjoy, the cheaper option doesn't give access to all the current records available.

An idea mooted on one or two sites has been to sign up to to the Australian Ancestry site, after converting the currency from $Aus to £ Sterling an annual sub (the £109 package) works out at about £64, roughly the same as a UK member was paying two years ago.

Does that include Tax ? The U.S version at one time looked cheaper until you got to the Check Out and Tax was added. Also how much do the c/c companies charge for the conversions ? Not always worth it but i do remember a thread some while back on this subject.

I dont buy yearly subs (i'd never go to work if i did !) i just save up all i want to find out and then sub to a monthly a few times a year and then give the Scottish census a bashing before wasting my money viewing the wrong ones on SP :lol:

Hi Yes thats what I do and I get from time to time the Ancestry.com not the UK or AUS
I have never seen tax added only a couple of dollars on the visa for transaction
World Deluxe as its cheaper than UK or Aussie one and you get the lot at the moment its Monthly $29.95 USD =$46 AUD or £20 for a month
bit of a bummer now the dollar rate has gone up in USA for us down under
but 30 days in a month its still cheap entertainment and no fuel for the car required our nearest library is 45 mins drive each way
