birth in Glasgow before 1855

Hi, happy New Year to everyone.
Ive traced back to the 1841 census my family, noticing there were 2 children born in Glasgow. who are not on the 1851 census. Also father is not on 1851 census. How can I obtain information on their deaths. The parents and other children were all born in Ireland.(family is Roman Catholic)

family is James and Mary Ann Hammill/ Hammil, Hammell. children being Catherine, Ellen, Mary, Matilda and Agnes. James, Matilda and Agnes are not on the 1851 census.
Are there earlier census and birth and death information. Can it be found online or would either the Genealogy Society in Glasgow or Mitchell Library have the info. Thanks Lindsey
