I found this web site whilst trying to solve the mystery of my wife's great grandmother. I don't know if there are other similar sites, this is probably not relevant to anyone here, however I think it is a great idea. I always think it is a shame when you go to sales or car boots and people are flogging frames with old pictures, you just hate to think that somewhere there is an ancient picture of one of your relatives which is going to a landfill.

Hi Andrew
always think it is a shame when you go to sales or car boots and people are flogging frames with old pictures
I know the feeling; there is an antique shop not too far from me which I pretty much avoid going into as they have a large postcard collection including many, many portraits, and they unsettle me too much*...I just think of all those lost people, with no names on the back (of course) who all belong to someone, somewhere... and I wonder if some of my long losts who I've not seen pictures of were in there, would I recognise them? Some maybe, but I bet there are some I would skip past...
What a lovely idea to try to reunite the pictures with the families.

Best wishes
Lesley

*I've probably got some recognisable syndrome and they'll be sending the folk in the white coats around for me shortly!

What a lovely site, hope some people are lucky enough to find a cherished family member.

What a wonderful idea!
Wouldn't it be great if some institution set up a home for old photos somewhere, something like a newspaper archive.

Photos are also a look at the past, especially of the ordinary people. They show us what people were wearing, their hairstyles, etc.
