Just in case some of you don't already know Glasgow City now have free Ancestry access at any library with your ticket.

Hi Wilma
You don't need to live in the area to apply for a Glasgow libraries ticket at the Mitchell...I don't live in the area but I applied for a ticket one day when at the Mitchell Library; the main reason at the time being because it lets me use the PCs when I'm there to check email, TS posts etc. (the ticket covers use of any Glasgow City Library) It also lets me connect to their network when I'm there with my laptop, so I can take a break, have a coffee (and a slice of carrot cake) and check email!
You just turn up, fill in a form and that's it! You certainly could not do the same in Dundee last time I tried - you needed to either live or work there, but that was many years ago, so maybe things have changed.
Best wishes
Lesley

Access to Ancestry online will be made available at all Ontario (Canada) libraries in the coming year as part of a special grant from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture.
Watch for it, at a library near you!

Before anyone nips down to their local library and suggests that they sign up to Ancestry, note that the annual subscription for the Ancestry Library Edition is $1,735 (currently ca. £1,200), - it goes down by 50% for libraries serving a population area of 50,000 or less.
Ancestry used to turn a blind eye to situations where a library staff member signed up for a personal subscription, and then made it available to library patrons, but this no longer appears to be the case.
Ancestry have developed a joint venture with a company by the name of ProQuest, - see
http://www.proquest.co.uk/en-UK/catalog ... /ale.shtml .
