New Zealand BDM Indexes now online.

New Zealand Birth Death and Marriage indexes are now available online at
http://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.identit ... t.nz/Home/

Available information:
1. Births that occurred at least 100 years ago
2. Stillbirths that occurred at least 50 years ago
3. Marriages and eventually Civil Unions that occurred 80 years ago
4. Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.

The index is free and appears to be very useful.

Post 1874 costs NZ$20 = 7.1 GBP, 10.4 USD, 12.9 CAD, 15.8 AUD. (all approx)
Pre 1875 costs NZ$26 = 9.2 GBP, 13.5 USD, 16.7 CAD, 20.6 AUD. (all approx)

I found Walter.

Walter was my 2x great grandfather's (the Scot who took my line to Liverpool) long lost youngest son (my great grandfather's little brother). He was born after my 2xgreatgrandfather drowned at sea in 1882. (His mother was heavily pregnant with him at the time. His father's loss at sea was officially confirmed a week after he was born, but he probably died when she was still pregnant) . But he disappeared from the records here after she died when he was 18, and I've spent the last year looking for him. Everywhere. Family tales said he went to America. To Canada. To south America. To South Africa.... The truth was, no one really knew.

And now I can't stop crying because thanks to this wonderful site, and the generosity of wonderful people like you, Alan, I've found him - in New Zealand.

I browsed on that site you posted above the day you posted it - you know, clutching at straws - and I came across one entry that seemed to fit the bill less than 2 minutes later. But I didn't expect it to actually be him. But it is. And I'm holding the copy of the death certificate I ordered two minutes after that, right now.

All I can say is, thank you, Alan. Thank you very very much.
