Church of England Clerical Directory and Clergy Lists etc

Post by Currie » Fri Mar 06, 2009 9:03 am

1. Crockford's Clerical Directory – 1868

This Directory contains abbreviated biographical information on Church of England Clergy in England, Wales and Ireland and Episcopal Clergy in Scotland and Overseas Missions. It’s much easier read if downloaded.
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=w2g ... intsec=toc

Alphabetical list of the Clergy of England and Wales p.1
Alphabetical list of the Clergy in Ireland (Established Church) p.753
Alphabetical list of the Clergy in Scotland (Episcopal Church) p.779
The Colonial Episcopal Church – Missionary lists etc p.784

2. The Clergy List for 1841.
An alphabetical listing of C of E Clergy with location.

3. For C of E Clergy information since 1968 and links to sources for earlier research see http://www.crockford.org.uk/standard.as ... 7286602294

But in case that page ever disappears I’ll quote from it in part.

1540 to 1835
http://www.theclergydatabase.org.uk/
“The terminal date of the project (1835) marks the period at which biographical data about clergymen becomes more accessible due to such publications as the Clergy List (and, later, Crockford's Clerical Directory).”

1835 to 1967
http://www.lambethpalacelibrary.org
“The library can be contacted and they are happy to check their printed sequence of Crockford's Clerical Directory and other printed sources to answer specific enquiries. They will take enquiries for any period, since they do have some relevant sources (e.g. published alumni lists for universities) in addition to Crockford's Clerical Directory.”
