Just today I saw the OPR for death up to 1854 were available. I did read the warning but to my pleasant surprise I hit the jackpot( a small one anyway). I found the death record for my Jane Smith ( nee Main) from 1853 ; it even had the name of her husband and his occupation.
Her age made a difference to her birth date but no matter.
It also said " received into the old ground". The burial took place in Edinburgh and the family address was Boswell Court Castle Hill. Would anyone know where "the old ground " would be? I found mentions of others into the "new ground".
I found a few tentatives as well ( I find the women easier as their husband's surname is sometimes mentioned in the initial results making it easier to narrow down before you view.
I just wanted to share my good news. Donna

Hi Donna,
If you click on the View Free Header link, you will find that this register from the South Leith parish OPRs was for Calton burial records, so the old and new burial ground are Old Calton Cemetery and New Calton Cemetery. These two cemeteries are in Waterloo Place and Regent Road, just east of Edinburgh city centre.
Waterloo Place was built through part of Old Calton Cemetery early in the ninteenth century, so most of it is to the south of Waterloo Place and a small portion is to the north of the street (accessed from the small street behind).
Satellite view of Waterloo Place and Regent Road, showing both cemeteries.
Old Calton Cemetery is above and below the street name of Waterloo Place. New Calton Cemetery is the larger cemetery below the street name of Regent Road. For reference, the two domed buildings to the west of Leith Street are General Register House and New Register House.
All the best,
AndrewP

OPR deaths
HI; Just wanted to thank Anne and Andrew for their replies. I also wanted to make a correction- it is not the husband's surname that is mentioned on occasion in the record but the wife's maiden name ( that 's what makes searching for a woman a little easier). Andrew I will go to your link right away. Donna
