Hi Tony:

John's birth and his parents' marriage are listed on IGI at http://www.familysearch.org

JOHN STEVEN
Birth: 26 DEC 1831 Wick, Caithness, Scotland
Parents:
Father: WILLIAM STEVEN
Mother: JEAN MURRAY

WILLIAM STIVEN
Spouse: JEAN MURRAY Family
Marriage: 04 DEC 1813 Wick, Caithness, Scotland

John's birth registration can be seen at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Search in the pink section on the lower left of the page under statutory records.

The parents' marriage is also recorded, but under the surname Stiven

This is a pay-per-view site, but well worth it, as it contains the official Scottish records of Birth, Marriage and Death and also the census and some wills.

All the best,
Frances

Hi Frances
JOHN STEVEN
Birth: 26 DEC 1831 Wick, Caithness, Scotland
I'm a bit muddled here - if John was born in 1831 Tony should be looking for the birth in the OPR records, (the "purple section") surely?

best wishes
Lesley

It's not you that's muddled, Lesley, it's me!

Good grief  I've always had problems with blue and green, now I'm confusing pink and purple.

It is correctly, in the 'purple section'

Thanks,
Frances
