Is this register on-line? If so, how do I get to it?
I knew this register existed but have never needed to refer to it, until now.
The information on the 1908 Register of deaths does not quite match my other information. I am fairly sure I know the 'error' but want to remove any doubts.
If a copy of the death cert was ordered, would it be the corrected version? Would it show there had been an ammendment?

Hi Hugo,
If there is an entry in the Register of Corrected Entries (RCE), it is noted in the left margin on the original certificate. On ScotlandsPeople, if you see that annotation in the margin, you can go back to the page where you clicked on the link to view the certificate. On that page there should be a bright red button to click on to view the RCE for an extra 2 credits. The red button is only there if there is an RCE for one of the entries on that certificate page.
If you see that red button before you have viewed the original certificate, then view the original certificate before you go to view the RCE. The RCE could relate to one of the other certificates on that page.
Should you find a certificate with an RCE annotation and the red button is not there for you to click on, then fill in a contact form on the ScotlandsPeople site and they will try and find the RCE manually for you and will usually e-mail you a copy. This also gives them a correction to apply to their database index so that at some time in the future that red button will be there on SP for others to view that RCE.
All the best,
AndrewP

Those RCEs are wonderful. I got a whole page of info written about the paternity case for one of mine which gave rich info on the individuals that you wouldn't get just from a BDM record.

Following Andrew's instructions I looked for a red button.
It was not there, so I contacted SP on Saturday and on Monday got a reply and a copy of the RCE I wanted.
The original cause of death said "Probably cardiac disease I saw the body" This seeems not to have satisfied the Procurator Fiscal as the corrected entry simply reads "Cardiac diease".
Unfortunately this was not the correction I expected and was looking for; on the original the father was 'Deceased' but I have his death cert dated several years later!
I suspect there could be a minor family skeleton here.

Oh dear, oh dear!
" . . on the original the father was 'Deceased' but I have his death cert dated several years later!"
Someone gently queried this and I now find that I do not have, or even saw, the death cert .
Obviously got him confused with someonen else.
Sorry.
