Great maps and photos for searching place names for those of us who can't get to Scotland. I contacted photographer who covered areas I was interested in and they have very generously done some lookups in the Banff area and offered more resource links.

Hello Scott,
Thanks for that. I think we’ve heard about the Geograph site before but I didn’t know you could contact the photographer. It’s certainly worth a try if you’re game.
All the best,
Alan

Hi
I think this site typifies the generosity of folk who just love their hobby and get a kick out of sharing it. I found it while doing a general search on a Borders village and now have great pictures of churches and farms where my Border rellies worshipped and worked. It has also encouraged me to start documenting my own family's places of association for future generations. I found places where my mother talked of going on holiday (about 10 miles down the road
) and where she played tennis and went to dances (a bit of a flapper).
Yes, in fact it reminds me a bit of Talking Scot - there with a smile when we need you
Regards
Lorna

Hi Scott
Thank you for posting this site. The pictures are great. It is nice to look at pictures of where my ancestors once walked. The next best thing to being there.

Re: Geograph.org.uk new favorite
We live in an old farmhouse and occasionally get people coming up whose family lived here, one even gave us some old photos showing a horse poking its head out of what is now my kitchen! So we put it on Geograph in case anyone who can't get here is interested.
